Group description

Port City Mutual Aid (PCMA) is a collective of working-class folks delivering a unified approach to Mutual Aid in Portland, Maine. We prioritize community, compassion and dignity while servicing community members in need. We connect with unhoused and underserved communities to provide living essentials, and form direct relationships. We are working with and within Portland’s community to alleviate the immediate effects of lack of food access and houselessness while simultaneously building solidarity and power to address the systemic root causes of those issues.

Work description

Every Sunday we gather at 213 Oxford Street from 1-2p to provide material goods and resources for anyone in need of them. Our economic and political systems are failing those in most need of support, and the only way to effectively combat that is through direct action in our community. As the weather warms, we will also be hosting park cleans for our community! Our long-term goal is to enable and empower these groups toward safer, more humane living conditions and more holistic personal fulfillment. Active cooperation between communities, active listening, and education in the realm of awareness, survival, harm reduction and governmental resources to aid individuals is essential to our goal.
